Discover Primary Science Project
Between 2004/5 and 2005/6 some 1300 Primary Schools/Teachers registered to participate in the Discover Primary Science project and went on to send teachers to a hands-on teacher induction day. These sessions were hosted throughout the country in Colleges of Education, Institutes of Technology, Universities and Education Centres. As part of the induction days, teachers carried out the activities set out in the classroom activity pack. The pack contains 31 activities in all, which have been developed and tested extensively with teachers and are intended to support the teaching of science in the revised primary school curriculum.
Scoil Mhuire Kilvemnon has participated in the Discover Primary Science programme since it's inception in 2004.
We have since been awarded two Awards of Excellence in Science

Awards of Science Excellence
After completing the training, schools which are registered on the project can, if they wish, go on to apply for an Award of Science Excellence when they have met a minimum criteria of science related activities. Schools applying for this award must keep a log of their science related work and they will get credit for such activities as visiting Discover Science Centres, inviting speakers to the school to talk about science, displaying their work and other miscellaneous explorative activities.

As part of the 2005 Discover Primary Science Science week Willie McTiernan (ICT advisor Kilkenny Education Centre) held a Film in the Classroom Workshop.
The Senior Students in Scoil Mhuire scripted and filmed a Science Documentary. This was then put on DVD and each student received a copy.
