Projects and Activities > School Activities > Empowering Minds Lego Mindstorms

In 2006/07 we worked on an Empowering Minds Project that incorporated our 'Witches of Slievenamon' Project.
We split ourselves into groups and worked on different aspects of the story. Take a look at photos of some of the models we made.
We travelled again to the Roboshow in Dublin. It was brilliant!!

The Eighth Annual RoboShow of the Empowering Minds Community took place in St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra on Tuesday May 15th 2007. The RoboShow is the premier showcase for the Empowering Minds community and allows primary school children and their teachers share the innovative projects they have been constructing over the course of the school year. The children engage in multi-disciplinary cross-curricular project based learning and make extensive use of a range of digital technologies (e.g robotics programming, animations, digital photography and video) to build these exciting and imaginative projects.
At the event more than 300 children from 13 schools showcased what the young engineers, designers & programmers of tomorrow are doing in school.

Project themes this year included “the Witches of Slievenamon”, Dublin Port Tunnel & Fairview Park, playgrounds and funfairs, robots searching for Ireland’s lakes and rivers, the National Ploughing Championships, the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci, Don Quixote (which inspired research into Windmills, alternative energy and weather surveys) as well as interactive games developed by students using LOGO programming.
In the Empowering Minds project St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra partners with the The National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE), Diageo Liberties Learning Initiative in the Digital Hub, the Dublin Inner-city Schools Computerisation project (DISC), and teachers and pupils of participating schools.
