Vincent Vaughan:
Vincent Vaughan is from Mullinahone. He came to our class and told us about planes.
He told us even at the age of seven he wanted to fly. When he was young he built models like us. We asked him questions and he answered them. At 12 years of age he built a plane out of wood but luckily the wind blew it over as he told us he would have jumped off something if the wind hadn’t blown it over.
Vincent Vaughan built his own plane from carbon fibre. It took four years to build the plane. He said it was very basic and there was only one seat in the plane. Vincent teaches flying in Kilkenny airfield. He taught us stuff that we never knew before.
He taught us about drag, thrust, lift and weight. These are the four forces that act on a plane. The thrust has to be stronger than the drag to make the plane fly. He also taught us about pitch, roll and yaw.
When he was young he was always telling people that he wanted to fly a plane.
He did a lot of test on his plane that he had built before he flew it. Vincent gave us advice on building our plane from K’Nex.
