Uttendorf
Uttendorf is located in the federal state of Salzburg in Austria and is one of the biggest and sunniest parishes in the region called Pinzgau. There are about 2850 inhabitants but more than 160,000 people visit the town every year because it is situated in the national park “Hohe Tauern”; Glacier and mountain chains form the landscape. Furthermore, Uttendorf is famous for its graves from the Bronze and Iron Age and recently a prehistoric village was found.

Volksschule Uttendorf
The Volksschule Uttendorf has 139 students, 71 boys and 68 girls in 8 classes. There are 17 teachers and Mr Alois Grundner is the school’s principal. The school moved into that building in 1954 which was renovated in 1987.

The principal
Since 1981, the school’s principal is Mr Alois Grundner. He was born on April 15 th 1947 in Salzburg in Austria. He is married and has two children. In his leisure time, he plays chess and enjoys the computer. He also likes cycling and hiking.

Special activities:

“Rock for kids”
This year the “Wiener Konzertbuehne” had a concert in the school’s gym and everybody enjoyed themselves.

A special visit
Some time ago, Angie, a woman affected by the drug thalidomide visited the school. She showed the students how she manages her every-day life: washing the dishes by using a toilet brush, driving a special car, typing on her keyboard with a pencil. The students were enthusiastic about Angie’s skills and her zest of life despite her disability.


Reading by Georg Bydlinksi
As every year there is a reading by a famous children’s author. Last year Georg Bydlinski visited the school. The children were very interested and liked working with him.


Lecture about the Celts
Uttendorf is famous for its graves from the time the Celts were living there about 3000 years ago. The Celts mined ore and had wide-stretching trade relations. That’s why a guide from the “Celts’ village” in Uttendorf visited the school and held a lecture about their life.
